Interactive Cognition Lab
Language at the Intersection of Perception, Action, and Technology
Our lab investigates the interactive nature of language and thought by combining cognitive linguistics with methods and approaches from experimental psychology or human-computer interaction. Many projects focus on the conceptual semantics of grammatical form, for instance, linguistic aspect. Others focus on the connection between spatial thinking and linguistic understanding. Yet others focus on conceptual metaphor or the role of gesture in everyday language use. Some of our findings have implications for user interfaces and ubiquitous computing, in particular, our motion capture work on pointing.
