June, 2008: The group welcomes the first graduate student, Eric Josephs. Eric received his B.S. degree from Duke University. He will focus on applications of nanotechnology in biological systems.

July, 2008: The group receives a type G award from Petroleum Research Fund for invesgitation of nanoscale motion.

August, 2008: Team of 9 Professors will get a state-of-the-art broadband tunable laser system.

September, 2008: The group welcomes a new graduate student, Jingru shao. Jingru got her B.S. degree from Peking University. She will focus on using surface electrochemistry to drive nanoscale motion.

September, 2009: Group's paper on GaSe quatum dots is published in Journal of Physical Chemistry C.

January, 2010: Group's nanomotors project is featured at the campus website: Extreme Science Forges Path for Breakthroughs.

June, 2010: Eric won a Best Student Presentation award at the annual UC Systemwide Bioengineering Symposium. He has also won the UC Merced Faculty Mentor Program Fellowship. Congratulations!

July, 2010: Our work on Nanoscale Positioning of Individual DNA Molecules by an Atomic Force Microscope is published in Journal of the American Chemical Society.

July, 2010: Tao's paper on the nanoscale motion of rotaxane molecular machines, published in ACS Nano, was highlighted in a number of science and technology media outlets, including Chemistry World (RSC), Chemical & Engineering News (ACS), R & D Magazine and Science Magazine.

Aug, 2010: Two new graduate students, Gary Abel and Cheetar Lee, join the group.

Dec, 2010: Our recent work on DNA patterning, is featured in JACS Select, an online collection highlighting significant papers recently published in JACS.

Dec, 2010: Tao, along with Anne Kelley and Erik Menke, received an NSF grant to acquire a high performance atomic force microscope.

Dec, 2010 Janice graduated with an M.S. degree in chemistry. Congratulations!

May, 2012: Ariana is selected to attend the Latino Leadership Initiative, a summer program hosted by John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Congratulations!

June, 2012: Eric's paper, A Single-Molecule View of Conformational Switching of DNA Tethered to a Gold Electrode, is published in Journal of the American Chemical Society.

July, 2012: Cheetar, Eric, and Jingru's paper on nanoscale chemical patterns on gold microplates is published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C.

Sept, 2012: Eric's paper on Electric-field dependent conformation of DNA on biosensor surfaces is accepted for publication at Nano Letters.

Jan, 2013: Group's biosensor research is highlighted in the campus news.

March, 2013: Eric and JIngru 's paper on nanografting of SDS, a weakly adsobing surfactant, is accepted for publication in Nanoscale.

March, 2013: Eric's paper on spatial statistics of thiolated DNA monolayers is accepted for publication at ACS Nano.

April, 2013: Gary, Eric and Norman's work on single molecule visualization of DNA hybridization is published in JACS.
