This book was a family project coordinated by my Aunt Elia Robledo Durán who was an Administrator with State of California Department of Migrant Education and my Uncle Jonás Robledo, Joaquin’s father, an educator, freelance photographer, photography instructor for the Chicano Film Institute, Community Organizer with the United Farmworkers Movement. I am the illustrator of the book including the lettering and book cover design. I drew the book cover based on a painting by Mexican artist Luis Betanzos. I loved that painting that hung on the wall of my little cousin Joaquin’s bedroom. [The book] is also included by Prof. Phillip Serrato at SDSU. Here is Elia’s response to Prof. Serrato: "Greetings! I am beyond astonished that OUR precious miniature book is ALIVE. My name is Elia Robledo Duran, Joaquin’s Tia, Debora Rodriguez García is my niece. The featured subject, Joaquin, is alive and well into his 50s years of age! Joaquín, Nino de Aztlán book is a true life story of the child as his father Jonas, my brother, photographed all pictures in the book. - gracias, Elia Robledo Durán."
