Current Projects

Parents as Teachers Home Visiting Study
We are partnering with the Merced County Office of Education and the Merced County Department of Public Health on a longitudinal study of how parenting affects children's development over the course of two years in a home visiting intervention.
We are especially interested in how stress, sleep, and mental health influence children's development in the early years.

Mother-Adolescent Communication Study
In collaboration with Dr. Wendy Rote at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, we are examining how mother-adolescent emotional communication shapes adolescents' social and emotional development using dynamic methodologies.

Family Communication About Type 1 Diabetes
In a partnership with Valley Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, we are learning about how families who have an adolescent with type 1 diabetes manage conflicts and emotions related to managing chronic illness.

Valley Teens as Parents
In a study funded by First 5 Merced County, we are investigating the relationship between teen parents and their own caregivers and how this relationship influences the development of teen parent and their young children.
